Another Successful Night at Our McClurg Kitchen Series!

Our second McClurg Kitchen Series was a huge hit! We were beyond excited to welcome Kelly Springer, RD, MS, CDN, and Founder of Kelly’s Choice in Skaneateles, NY to host our second event!

We’ve crossed paths with Kelly many times out in the community, always inspired by her energy and passion for spreading nutrition education and encouragement. So, when she accepted our invitation to join us for our October McClurg Kitchen Series and brought her friend and partner Matt Read from Spatchcock Funk  we were absolutely thrilled…..especially because we are pretty big fans, and so are our clients!

About Our Series

Our McClurg Kitchen Series is all about creating opportunities to spend time with our client community and partners where we all love to gather...... the kitchen, surrounded by great food, good conversation, and a little laughter. Once Kelly and Matt were on the calendar, we knew it was going to be a special evening.

When we say “we love our clients,” we truly mean it. Through 45 years of building our McClurg client community, we’ve been lucky enough to watch families grow, homes transform, change and flourish. We’re proud — and genuinely honored — to be trusted with the spaces where our clients’ best memories are made.

Many of our clients have become dear friends. We love when someone pops in because they were in the neighborhood, or they’ve baked too many cookies. We’ve even had folks drop off “that book I was telling you about” or stop in just to say hello.

For us, it’s always been about the relationships.
Life gets busy — we all know it — and each season brings new responsibilities and a packed calendar! The McClurg Kitchen Series gives us a reason to pause, reconnect, and check in with our people. Because really, what better place to gather with your community than around the kitchen?

So, the McClurg Kitchen Series was created!

Our friend Emily Gozy, CEO, Founder, and Lead Dietitian at Nourished with Emily, LLC, was kind enough to help us kick things off last month. The event was a hit! We caught up with long-time clients, welcomed new ones into our community, and even had staff and local partners join in. The energy was exactly what we’d hoped for.

We asked for feedback after that first event, and our friends and clients delivered! Their thoughtful suggestions helped us make our next evening even more intentional, fun, and meaningful.

A Night To Remember

For our October Kitchen Series, we took everything we learned — and with Kelly and Matt’s help — turned it up a notch. And wow, did they deliver.

Their easygoing rhythm as partners made the night feel like a dinner party with close friends — laughter, stories, and shared appreciation filling the room.

Matt and his team from Spatchcock Funk kicked off the evening with Fall Remodel Cocktails. “When you’re remodeling your house — at least for me — the reason you do it is because you want to entertain. The remodel is something you should be celebrating, so throw a party!” Matt said. And that’s exactly what we did.

Their Fall Remodel Margaritas were a hit! Deconstructed and rebuilt with quality ingredients and craftsmanship that impressed the whole room (especially our McClurg carpenters!).

The Spatchcock Funk crew set up shop and started making drinks for everyone to enjoy, even using a hand torch to add that smoky flavor to a sprig of rosemary for warmth and garnish. It was a fun and unique touch!

Next up was Kelly; with Matt and his team nearby for support, of course. The duo’s warmth and humor kept everyone relaxed and entertained as Kelly dove into a topic that resonated with all of us: how to get the nutrients and balance we need in our busy lives.

She encouraged us to rethink meal prep, to keep it simple, creative, and focused on what our bodies actually need. “Fresh or frozen, it’s about making smart choices,” she reminded us. Kelly also encouraged everyone to stay curious — to learn about the brands we buy and the ingredients we use. You might think you’re getting fiber from a trusted source, only to learn later it’s not quite what you expected. Stay curious. Stay mindful. And keep it simple in the kitchen.

Then came the highlight of the evening: a live cooking demo with Kelly and her husband! Together, they made Broccoli Cheddar & White Bean Quesadillas, a perfect example of how something quick and simple can still be nourishing and delicious.

Kelly explained how pantry staples like canned chickpeas and nutrient-packed Greek yogurt can elevate a meal without sacrificing flavor or adding cost. As she cooked, she chatted easily with guests, answered questions, and reminded us all that healthy cooking doesn’t have to be complicated or boring.

The verdict was unanimous: the quesadillas were incredible! Our guests were amazed that such a simple recipe could pack so much flavor, nutrition, and joy into one dish.

We are so happy to have partnered with these two incredible professionals who share our heart for community, education, and connection. Kelly and Matt both embody what it means to give back through food, creativity, and genuine human connection. It was such an honor to have them in our kitchen with our wonderful client community.

We’re already looking forward to the next event and can’t wait to welcome our clients and partners back for more fun, inspiration, and togetherness.

Watch for our next McClurg Kitchen Series — we’d love to see you in the kitchen!
