The Downtown Committee's Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival has been a well loved and well respected event in Syracuse for as long as we can remember. Artists come from all over the country to showcase their work and celebrate the Arts.
This year, McClurg was honored to be invited as an artist in craftsmanship.
Along with our dedication to quality craftsmanship, we have a passion for promoting trades education and inspiring the next generation of builders. That's exactly why our McClurg Building Corner exists.
Originally designed and built in partnership with the students at Marcellus High School, the Building Corner has become one of our favorite ways to connect with families in our community. Through our Trades Education Initiative, we hope to give kiddos the opportunity to build something with their own hands and create a tangible memory they can be proud of long after the event is over.
The Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival was the perfect place to bring that mission to life.
For three days, downtown Syracuse became a gathering place for creators and art enthusiasts of every kind. We met so many wonderful individuals and families who brought their kiddos over to build with us.
Grandparents shared stories about a lifetime in the trades. Parents talked about growing up with a carpenter in the family. Others shared that their children were discovering an interest in welding, painting or woodworking for the very first time.
Those conversations meant a lot to us.
They reminded us that craftsmanship isn't just a trade. It's an art. It's something worth celebrating and something worth passing on. We were honored to be part of an event that celebrates creativity in so many forms, and grateful to see our CNY neighbors recognize building and craftsmanship as another expression of art.
In a world where so much of childhood is spent consuming, we believe there is incredible value in creating. Watching kiddos leave with a memory of something they built themselves and seeing the pride on their faces was easily the highlight of our weekend.
We also loved seeing familiar faces stop by. McClurg clients came over to say hello, returning families were excited to build something new, and we met so many people who were discovering our McClurg Building Corner for the first time.
We left the festival feeling inspired not only by the incredible artists who filled downtown Syracuse with creativity, but by our Central New York community.
Thank you to the Downtown Committee of Syracuse for creating opportunities that bring people together, celebrate local talent and remind us that some of the best memories are made when we create something with our own hands.
