McClurg in the Community

Building Corner at Beaver Lake

There are few better ways to kick off fall than a weekend at Beaver Lake Nature Center!

This was our second year bringing the McClurg Building Corner to the Golden Harvest Festival, and even with a little rain, it was such a great weekend to be outside and in the community.

One of our favorite parts of events like this is getting to be out in our community.
We ran into clients and friends we haven't seen in a while, met so many new families and spent the weekend talking, building and enjoying everything that makes this time of year in Central New York so special.

And, of course, we love any opportunity to bring along the McClurg Building Corner!

The Building Corner is part of our Trades Initiative and gives kiddos a space to work with their hands, use real materials, figure things out and build. We love talking with families about why this matters to us. There is something really special about watching a kiddo take a pile of pieces and turn it into something entirely their own.

This year, we were lucky enough to be set up right next to the puppet show. With limited seating available, we watched as a few kiddos grabbed pieces from the Building Corner and got to work creating their own seats for the show. We thought that was pretty impressive!

It was also a perfect example of exactly what we hope the Building Corner encourages: see a problem, use what you have and build a solution.

For us, that's what being out in the community is all about. We're grateful every time we're invited to bring the Building Corner somewhere new, meet more of our neighbors and give kids another opportunity to create instead of consume.

Thank you to Beaver Lake Nature Center for inviting us back, and thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, catch up and build with us.

What a great way to kick off fall! 🍂🔨
